A half day on horseback
This is the shortest tour in the collection and one of the most popular: four hours door to door, of which an hour and a half is spent riding. The park is 40 km from Bishkek, about 50 minutes by road.
Horses have been how people move through these mountains for as long as there have been people here, and the difference between seeing a meadow from a path and crossing it in the saddle is larger than you would expect. The route runs through open flowering meadows with the range in front of you the whole way.
No experience needed
The horses are calm and used to guests, and an instructor rides with the group. You are given a helmet and a short briefing before you mount, and the pace stays at a walk unless everyone in the group is comfortable going faster. Children ride with an adult leading.
Wear long trousers — jeans are fine — and closed shoes with a small heel if you have them. That is all the preparation this needs.
When to come
The riding season runs from late spring to early autumn, when the meadows are green and dry. It pairs well with a walking day: many guests ride in the morning and take the Ala-Archa walking tour the following day, or the other way round.
